Features are freedom
I sit and think about every time I would suppress my afro features in fear of someone not accepting them. Growing up and having people who look like me played a major role of who i am today .. though i noticed at certain times it didn't stick to me, because my mind would tell me your nose is to big, your lips are too big, your cheekbones are too high. When i realized how much oppression i’ve done to myself i have also allowed others to do so and it had affected me in those moments so heavily i didn't even notice.
I believe i can speak for all African American young women and men who feel as if they have to look a certain way to be worthy. I come to tell you that is not true your features tell a story far better than words can, believe it or not there is someone that shares your features from so long ago and that should give you enough grace of yourself to be who you ARE. You are deserving and you are a creation of something beautiful
Learn who you are and whose you are before you lose who you are.
